This summer, in addition to bringing you some beautiful new designs, the ladies of Chloe Oliver have big plans to spend some time outside enjoying the beauty that is Southern California. And there is no better way to kick off our summer plans than with a Memorial Day picnic at the beach. We are thinking good friends, good music, good food, something sweet and fantastic weather.
No one wants to eat anything too fussy or messy while lounging in the sand so I like to keep my food easy to eat and at room temperature so people can eat at their leisure. In addition to the usual suspects of hot dogs and hamburgers, this shrimp and orzo salad fits the bill. It is light and healthy but full of flavor.
When hosting, I always make a playlist that goes with the mood of the event but also appeals to a variety of tastes. At the moment, I am loving Of Monsters and Men, The Oh Hello’s, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, Angus & Julia Stone, Justin Timberlake, Mackelmore, The Lumineers, and The Rouge. Combine that playlist with this beautiful portable turntable and you have yourself the beginnings of a great party.
It is my opinion that the best meals end in dessert. And what says summer more than s’mores? These cookies sound like the perfect ending to a Memorial Day party. Less mess and fuss but you still get that great chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker flavor. I'm in.
I couldn’t mention a party without thinking about what to wear. I like to keep it simple when I am going to the beach. Our breezy ombre maxi dress will work perfectly on its own over my bikini with sandals and I can layer it and add a pair of killer boots for going out later that night.
Above all, don't forget to remember the reason why we celebrate this weekend and thank those who have served in our Armed Forces.
